NFI Group’s subsidiary, Alexander Dennis, has secured an order for 33 double-decker Enviro500EV buses, which will be the company’s first zero-emission vehicles in North America. This announcement follows successful launches in the United Kingdom and the Asia-Pacific region.
The order for these electric buses has been placed by Sound Transit, the regional transit provider for the Seattle metropolitan area. The manufacturing of these buses will take place in the United States through a partnership between Alexander Dennis and Big Rig Manufacturing.
The Enviro500EV will utilize Alexander Dennis’ zero-emission technology platform, leveraging the Voith electrical drive system and inductive opportunity charging on double-deck buses to enhance both range and performance. This innovative approach ensures a greener and more sustainable transportation solution.
Sound Transit plans to deploy these electric buses as part of a new Stride bus rapid transit system along Interstate 405. This system aims to connect communities north, east, and south of Lake Washington while providing convenient access to light rail connections.
With this order from Sound Transit, Alexander Dennis is taking a significant step towards a cleaner and more eco-friendly future in the North American transportation industry.
