Coinbase said it will begin offering tokenized stocks, derivatives, prediction markets and early-stage token sales to U.S. customers in the coming months, expanding its core trading app beyond cryptocurrencies. The new suite, branded an “everything exchange,” will debut domestically before a gradual international rollout pending local approvals.
“We’re bringing all assets on-chain — stocks, prediction markets and more — in a one-stop shop,” vice president of product Max Branzburg told CNBC, adding that the goal is to create a faster and more accessible global marketplace. The announcement follows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s launch of “Project Crypto,” aimed at updating securities rules to accommodate blockchain-based trading.
The move puts Coinbase in closer competition with Robinhood, Gemini and Kraken, which already offer tokenized equities to users outside the United States. Chief Executive Officer Brian Armstrong has said he wants Coinbase to become the leading consumer financial services platform over the next decade.
