United Airlines recently announced that it has successfully resolved a systemwide technology issue that temporarily halted scheduled departures nationwide on Tuesday afternoon.
The Fix is Found
In a statement posted on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, United stated, “We have identified a fix for the technology issue and flights have resumed.” The airline further assured its customers that it is working closely with those affected to help them reach their destinations as soon as possible.
Temporary Setback for United
The news of the systemwide technology issue had an initial impact on United’s stock performance, with shares falling 4.7% in intraday trading. However, the airline’s shares have shown signs of recovery, currently down 2.6% as of 2:28 ET.
Swift Action to Resolve the Issue
While additional details regarding the nature of the technology issue are yet to be provided, United Airlines acted swiftly to address the problem. Unfortunately, no further information can be obtained from the airline at this time.
Minimal Impact on Air Travel
Despite the disruption, flights that were already in operation prior to the systemwide technology issue were allowed to continue their journeys without interruption. However, FlightAware.com reported approximately 300 delayed United flights on Tuesday, accounting for approximately 11% of the airline’s daily schedule.
FAA Lifts Ground Stop
The Federal Aviation Administration has confirmed that United Airlines has lifted the ground stop caused by the systemwide technology issue. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has remarked that the FAA is actively gathering information about the cause and scope of the issue. The Department of Transportation (DOT) will ensure that United Airlines meets its obligations to affected passengers.
